La Place des Vosges

What makes it great?:  
La Place des Vosges is a gorgeous square in le Marais where Victor Hugo used to live. There is some grass in the middle of the square - rare in Paris - and people come a lot in spring and summer to eat their lunch and have coffees. The buildings around the square are quite spectacular hence its popularity. Nearby is la rue des Rosiers which is the Jewish quarter in Paris where you can eat the best falafels in Paris!
What would make it better?:  
It would be better if it were legal for the French to sit on the grass in city squares. There is a sign there that says that you cannot sit on the grass but it doesn’t seem to stop anyone.
